Gaming
I
believe that the benefits of gaming in the classroom is that it helps students
learn more, because students feel motivated to learn. If students have
interest, then they will learn. Also, they feel confident and want to complete
the activities. It helps them with self-esteem, language, and problem-solving
skills. The authors said that there are a variety of software that helps
teachers and parents to introduce quality learning material (Roblyer &
Hughes, 2019). I see that because of games, students feel that they can do hard
work that was impossible in the past. I also think that games help them to work
as a team, they want to share their accomplishments with others and ask others
for help.
As for challenges, I think that when students are engaged
with gaming, they do not want to do other activities that do not include games.
They have a hard time to disconnect from the game and start next activities. Games
should be used just for instruction. Research has found that games are not
substitutes for other types of learning (Nguyen, 2021). So, gaming should be
incorporated into lessons if they are relevant for learning objectives. As a
strategy I use, is that students cannot have the iPad for more than 20 minutes.
I think that students should have gaming in the classroom for a short period of
time. So, they do not have too much time to be super engaged.
